A Rave Review for “Your Empire Is Calling You” at 10 Magazine

And I should know, because I wrote it.

The review is here on the 10 Mag site. By the way, if you like Korean literature, you should probably subscribe to 10 Mag as it is the only English monthly magazine in Korea that covers Korean literature. That’s kind of weird, but there you have it.

Anyway, in the print version the review looks like this:

  1. Huh, nice to hear another book of his is out. I really liked the short stuff I’ve read–primarily because, unlike a lot of Korean lit, there’s an apparent sense of humor on display–but really didn’t care for I Have the Right To Destroy Myself.

  2. Gord,

Glad to see you here. I think I Have the Right To Destroy Myself was a bit polarizing because it wore its philosophical stance so clearly on its sleeve. I really liked it, but people whose opinions I respect were a bit put off by it. Your Republic is Calling You is a really well integrated book, in which philosophy isn’t so front and center.
