FOW 29 – Neff on Joseon; SOV back up; Imminent Danger; Win in Lithuania!

This lecture will examine Korea – as seen through the eyes of Sally Sill, the wife of John M. B. Sill – the American Minister to Korea (1894–1897). Their stay in Seoul was during an extremely turbulent period of Korean history, a span of time that encompassed the Sino-Japanese War, the Gabo Reforms, the murder of the Korean queen, and King Gojong’s subsequent refuge in the Russian legation.

  • Subject Object Verb, the very nearly late and lamented blog is back up, seeming to focus a little more broadly, but good stuff.
  • Also, a new (to me at least) and interesting site, the Imminent Danger Tumblr which has Interesting little flashes/vignettes of Korean literature and philosophy. For whatever reason, as I read this tumblr, I’m reminded of Yi Sang. Which is a good thing.^^
  • The Korea Herald talks about Korean translation success.. but in Lithuania, which according to the article was also fond of Kim Young-ha’s “Whatever Happened to the Guy Stuck in the Elevator”
