Is 소나기/Sonagi (Hwang Sun-won/황순원) a Sex-Story?

PictureFromGoogle

FIND OUT TOMORROW!!

How old do you think the people in that picture to the right are?  That’s the picture of Sonagi from Google’s page honoring Hwang Sun-won on his recent birthday.  But those people are at least 14, possibly even 15 or 16?

Why does it matter?

Because that’s how English-language readers often think about the kids in Sonagi, and that’s one of the reasons that to Korean’s Sonagi is a story of innocent love and to non-Koreans it is a story of innocence lost.

Interested in why?  Come to Haechi Hall, tomorrow (Saturday, March 28, 4-6PM), and hear me talking about “”The History of Korean Literature, mainly in translation, totally in about an hour.”

I’ll tell you why Sonagi is dirty, why Korean literature is sometimes difficult to read in translation, and lay out a quick history of the whole darned thing! For more information you can click on this KTLIT link, and find out how to attend.
