Jo Jung-Rae‘s (the name is different on the book, Cho Chongnae, however KTLIT uses the authors preferred Romanization as determined by the authoritative page at LTI Korea) How in Heaven’s Name: A Novel of World War Two, is available now.
Unusually, it is a novel of World War II, an era that is not that well represented in Korean modern literature. The video is of Bruce and Ju-Chan Fulton both discussing the extremely unlikely circumstances of the Korean characters (German soldiers on the beaches on D-Day), and the dedication of author Jo Jung-Rae (who also wrote the absolutely brilliant The Land of the Banished. The segment is only 20 minutes long, a brilliantly sets up the absurdity of the situation these men found themselves in, the issue of what their identity was and how it was perceived, as well as including a reading of a part of the text by Bruce Fulton.
