Bruce and Ju-Chan Fulton have been translating a graphic novel by Yoon Taeho called MOSS on the Huffington Post. As far as I can determine,this is the first Korean graphic novel to be published in English translation in a major U. S. media outlet.

It is the story of semi-reclusive Ryu Haeguk returning to his hometown upon his father’s death, deciding to stay there, and then becoming increasingly suspicious about his father’s death and the town in general.

The work is inked in a number of different styles from nearly black and white, suggesting night and the countryside, and vibrant neon colors representing the big city. These styles do not clash, and when mixed with the clean, deliberate translation of the Fulton’s, fully brings out the suspicious, if not horrifying, nature of the town.

The story is up to episode 25 (of 82) at HuffPo and access remains free (those in a hurry to get to the ending can also purchase episodes on Spottoon, here (they start out free, but end up charging .99 cents per episode, so if you have the patience, wait for the HuffPost, if not, you’ll end up dropping a bit of coin,
