Sad News: Choe In-ho (최인호) author of “Deep Blue Night” passes away

Sadly, Choe In-ho (Choi In-ho) passed away today after a battle with cancer.

Choe In-hoChoe was a skilled author who was translated into English in the following works (The work names are links to reviews here):

Choi’s Deep Blue Night was translated into English by Bruce Fulton and his wife Ju-Chan Fulton for the Korea Literature Translation Institute and Jimoondang Publishing, and won the prestigious Yi Sang award in Korea in 1982. Besides winning the Yi Sang award Choi has also been awarded the 1972 Contemporary Literature Prize.

For more information, you can see Choe’s Wikipedia page here, which LTI Korea/KTLIT put up as part of the Wikipedia project (and has been tended by our talented intern HaRyung YeHwan Kim)

According to the Korea Times article on his death:

A memorial will be set up at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital in southern Seoul until Saturday. He will be buried at Bundang Memorial Park, Gyeonggi Province. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

For those interested, there is a semi-strange article (in Korean) discussing the tweets mourning his death (Link Rotted), and here a more traditional story from SBS.
