The hits just keep on coming. Regular followers of my twitter account (see link to the right) know that I call “Please Look After Mom” an “Oprah-genre” book. Well, now “Please Look After Mom” has hit O Magazine, the magazine named for Oprah.

“Please Look After Mom” has been named one of the 18 Books to Watch for in April 2011. This, of course, is huge and may be the reason for the printing of a 2nd run of the book, even before the first run is officially out.

In addition, O magazine has provided a reading guide for O customers, which you can find here.

Big news, and with luck some other Korean author is waiting in the Western publishing pipeline to follow this book up.Β  My theory has always been once there was one hit, there would be ‘copycat’ publishing, and this book looks like it will be the hit to test my theory.

  1. We can but hope that it will be a hit, and Korean publishers will focus on selling translation rights to books that have market appeal.

Genre fiction like this uptown book is the way to go.

  2. Charles,,

It’s really all about genre’s, particularly at the beginning of translating a culture. I’ll be giving a presentation on this at E-dae next month, which I guess I’ll post here as well. πŸ˜‰

    Charles..
