The Seoul Book Fair is this Week and KTLIT has a schedule in English!

SIBFOnce again it is time for the awesome Seoul Book Fair (Wednesday October, 7 through the 11th), and once again the website in English hasn’t bothered to put up the program. So, KTLIT is stepping in to make a quick and dirty translation of the presentation program. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be the same focus on authors as in years past, but it is still a pretty nice fair to visit.

For people who don’t speak Korean, the biggies to make sure NOT to miss are Hwang Sun-mi, the author of The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly, and long-standing icon of Korean literature Yi Mun-yol (Our Twisted Hero, Pilon’s Pig, The Poet, An Appointment With My Brother, and several works published in magazines or online.). You will note that Hwang appears several times during the festival, and Yi is on Sunday the 11th. Both definitely worth checking out, and in past Fairs all authors have graciously hung around for autograph sessions.

Also worth checking out is the booth by the Literature Translation Institute of Korea, which has dozens, if not hundreds, of books in translation for your perusal, and a staff that speaks Korean, English, and some other languages as well.

If books won’t hold your attention too long, there are also brilliant booths demonstrating cover design, pop-up book design, unusual book design, calligraphy – basically literature as art.In the schedule I have left out things like the Publisher’s Colloquium, and at the top have listed all the author meetings, with particular note on those who have works translated into English (see the purple text). The authors usually sign autographs after their sessions, and are often charmingly surprised to see non-Koreans at their events.

The complete schedule is below this slideshow from two years ago:
