On Saturday, May 25th, Korean author Kim Young-ha (I Have the Right to Destroy Myself, Your Republic is Calling You, Black Flower), ably moderated by Krys Lee (Drifting House), read from his works, discussed his works with Lee, and answered questions from the audience.
KTLIT was there to video the event, and photographer John Steele (www.johnsteelephoto.com) was there to take photos (including the photo you see used here).
Nearly 150 fans of literature came to the Seoul Global Culture & Tourism Center, to see Kim Young-ha speak about literature and his life. Kim was alternately serious, jesting, reflective and contemplative. Kim first read from his work Your Republic is Calling You. The second section of the presentation was a set of moderate questions from Lee, about writing and translation. Finally, after a five minute
break, Kim answered questions from the audience, which was alternately rapt, entertained, and howling with laughter.
A suprise guest, Korean-American author Chang Rae Lee was also in attendance, although he did not speak.
