A video of Kim Young-ha giving a charming lecture, as well as excerpts from six of Kim Young-ha’s works, several of which are linked to full versions of the stories (I have linked the full versions, where possible).
The excerpts are here, and the works include:
- I Have the Right to Destroy Myself
- Marilyn Monroe and Lady Gaga’s Korea (excerpted from Words without Borders)
- Black Flower
- Ice Cream (
excerpted from the Asia Literary Review) (ALAS this has been removed) - The Man Who Sold His Shadow (excerpted from Words without Borders)
- Honor Killing (a story on a napkin in Esquire)
This video was filmed at the TEDx event in Seoul at which I first met Young-ha, so it inspires a certain nostalgia in me.^^
It is a 16 minute talk in Korean, but with English subtitles, and TED’s summary of it is:
Why do we ever stop playing and creating? With charm and humor, celebrated Korean author Young-ha Kim invokes the world’s greatest artists to urge you to unleash your inner child — the artist who wanted to play forever. (Filmed at TEDxSeoul.)
